is a multi-disciplinary legacy project anchored in tintype portraits of Black people from around the world. Starting in 2020 at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the goal is to create the largest contemporary archive of Black American and Global Diasporic tintypes ever. Exploring themes of belonging, placemaking, the Black Rodeo, and much more through a cultural anthropological lens, Black Magic remains a fluid representation of the interests and concerns stemming from the mind of the project’s creator Adam Garrett Davis. Davis is an educator, advocate, artist, and practitioner in the art of collaboration. He obsessively seeks to apply his passion for creative & communicative storytelling to assist in finding solutions to problems that hinder diverse and equitable cultural progression at the intersection of the Arts & Education.
